The world is in desperate need of better Christian music. We want to give the
world great music that anyone can enjoy, not just church-goers.
There are so many genres out there that need a positive message from a Christian perspective. The mainstream
Christian song sounds more like 70s slow rock than anything else.
The problem with Christian music today is it all has a similar sound and characteristics.
Christian music desperately needs to get away from the following:

Mostly slow songs. Even the fast, upbeat, songs are slow.
- They are very long. The chorus is repeated several times when 3 times
is really good enough. Long songs get boring.
- Overly musical. I realize this may seem like an odd criticism, but here
is what I mean.. There is more harmony in Christian music than other genres.
Every song sounds like the church choir sung it. The chord progressions
can be very complex. A lot of time, simple is better. Do we really need
a piano rift in every bridge?
- Not very much attention is given to the artistic side of music. It is
as though the goal to worship God has overshadowed the importance of expressing
yourself. Instead of expressing yourself the song writer just want's it
to sound "good" rather than to sound "unique."
- They are too easy to like. They follow the rules of chord progression
to a T, adding in the extra bling every time. Too much flair. Things are
put in just because they sound good and fit. No one is being daring, making
music that grows on you after hearing it a few times. Those songs are often
more successful than those that aren't.
There are many genres of music that Christians haven't really touched. There seem to be a lot of soft rock Christian songs,
but not very much rock, alternative, pop songs. Top 40 stations include a pop sound that doesn't really exist in Christian music.
One Genre I have come across that Christians have begun to do well in is the
Hip-Hop scene. Listen to
this.
It is a very high quality example of modern Christian music in the Hip Hop genre
that has the true sound of Hip-Hop.
The unbeliever could easily make
this
one of their favorite songs because of how it sounds, and at the same time be
witnessed to every time it was played.
